The MWDBE/SBE/PDBE City Certification is administered by the Mayor’s Office of Business Opportunities (OBO). Although not a requirement to obtain work on City contracts, some of the advantages of MWDBE/SBE Certification include:

• A listing of your firm in the City’s MWDBE/SBE/PDBE Directory located on the City of Houston webpage: www.houstontx.gov. This directory is utilized by all City departments.
• An opportunity to bid on contracts which have MWDBE/SBE goals.
• The City certification is accepted by the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council, Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance, Department of Transportation, HISD, TSU, KBR and more.
• Emailed notifications of bid opportunities and business events.

Firms wishing to become certified can attend one of the weekly Pre-Certification Workshops offered each Thursday at 2:00p.m. in the Office of Business Opportunities located at 611 Walker on the 7th floor. These workshops address certification requirements and procedures and provide business owners with information on how to do business with the City of Houston.
