Randy Macchi, Houston Public Works Director
Randy Macchi serves as the Director of Houston Public Works, the largest accredited public works agency in the United States. In this role, he oversees Houston’s extensive public infrastructure, including streets and drainage systems, water production and distribution, wastewater treatment, and permitting and regulation for construction. With nearly 4,000 employees and an annual budget of $3.3 billion, Randy is dedicated to enhancing Houston's infrastructure to support a resilient and thriving community.
Randy joined Houston Public Works in March 2023 as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and took on an expanded leadership role in April 2024, before being named Director in November 2024. His leadership has been instrumental in fostering innovation and efficiency.
With nearly 24 years of combined experience as a corporate executive, Randy has a proven track record of transformational leadership. His career includes serving as COO and General Counsel for U.S. LawShield, a national legal defense provider, and as CEO and Founder of Confident Leadership Coaching, where he provided leadership and executive coaching services for clients in some of the world’s top corporations. As an attorney, he is an accomplished litigator where his primary practice areas included complex commercial transactions, corporate law, real estate, and personal injury law.
Randy holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center, where he excelled in advocacy and leadership, earning accolades such as induction into the National Order of the Barristers. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History from Brigham Young University, with a focus on Colonial America and the American South.
An award-winning public speaker, certified mediator, and adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center, Randy’s dedication to public service and infrastructure innovation exemplifies his commitment to making Houston a city prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
