School and Childcare Sampling

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) oversees a free statewide program to help eligible schools and childcare facilities do voluntary sampling and analysis for lead in drinking water. The Lead Testing in School and Child Care (LTSCC) program helps reduce children’s exposure to lead and protects their health.

Houston Public School

Why is the LTSCC program free?

This program is free thanks to federal funding distributed by Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation grants. TCEQ includes all training and materials needed to take part in the program.

Is my school or childcare facility eligible to take part in the program?

To be eligible for the program, a school or childcare facility must:

  • Be a public school or state-regulated childcare facility.
  • Tell their community (e.g. parents, guardians, and staff) they are taking part in the program.
  • Name someone as the program point of contact who oversees program activities.

Contact your eligible local schools and childcare facilities today to see if they are part of the program. Fill out the online nomination form to nominate a facility.

Why should eligible schools and childcare facilities take part in this free program?

  • TCEQ trains and supports school and childcare facility employees to prepare staff to take samples.
  • TCEQ provides lead sample analysis.
  • TCEQ provides technical assistance and on-going support for the schools and childcare facilities.
  • TCEQ delivers all needed sampling materials and instructions directly to the school and childcare facilities.

What can schools and childcare facilities do if they are not eligible for this program?
